Who Invented VASER?

Renowned plastic surgeon Alfredo Hoyos M.D. is considered the world authority on liposculpture techniques. His pioneering procedures, VASER-assisted liposuction and VASER Hi Def liposculpture, are revolutionary developments in the field of body aesthetics. Specializing in plastic surgery, aesthetic plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and hand surgery, Dr. Hoyos is a leader in the advancement of surgical techniques for body contouring. As well as being an accomplished surgeon, he showcases his comprehensive knowledge of the intricacies of the human body as an author, medical illustrator, and sculptor.

Dr. Hoyos developed VASER (vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance) to remove excess fat and enhance the natural contours of the musculature beneath, providing striking, long-lasting, results for patients in many areas of the body including the abdomen, chest, neck, and hips. And naturally, due to high success and satisfaction rates, his effective treatment techniques are now used by medical professionals across the United States to help men and women fulfill their cosmetic goals.

Thanks to the vision and surgical artistry of Dr. Hoyos, Dr. Jack Friedlander is proud to offer VASER services at NorCal Liposculpture, his state-of-the-art practice in Roseville, California. Dr. Friedlander has trained with world-renowned VASER pioneer and London cosmetic surgeon Dr. Grant Hamlet, and Denver’s premier VASER specialist John Millard, MD. VASER Liposuction

VASER Liposuction differs significantly from standard liposuction. It treats stubborn fat deposits with advanced ultrasound technology. Ultrasound employs sound waves higher in frequency than can be heard by the human ear. Clinical testing posits that ultrasound breaks down fat cells in three ways: cavitation (vapor bubble formation), thermal effect, and direct mechanical effect.(1) The energy breaks down and emulsifies fat, allowing smoother, more targeted fat removal. High frequency sound waves destroy adipose tissue (fat) while leaving virtually all other connective tissues intact!

During a VASER Liposuction treatment, Dr. Friedlander inserts a small cannula into the treatment area. He delivers tumescent fluid – a special solution of saline, epinephrine, and lidocaine to allow for easier fat removal. Lidocaine is an analgesic and an anesthetic agent, while dilute epinephrine induces vasoconstriction, reducing bleeding.(2) The VASER device pulses ultrasound waves, agitating the tumescent fluid to create bubbles. These bubbles effectively effervesce and the fat is dislodged, emulsified, and easily removed with an aspirating cannula.

Why Choose VASER Over Conventional Liposuction?

The VASER technique is more effective than standard liposuction for a number of reasons. Traditional liposuction is the most invasive liposuction choice. As it’s assisted by ultrasound waves, VASER is less traumatic to the surrounding tissue, thereby setting up the framework for a speedy recovery with minimal post-procedure discomfort. It’s also easier for surgeons to target fat close to the surface of the skin, allowing more sculptural definition.

Another benefit of VASER is that it can be performed under local anesthesia, rather than general. Although general anesthesia has been the standard for more invasive surgeries for many years, surgeons are increasingly choosing local anesthesia as a faster, safer alternative. Though you’re “asleep” under general anesthesia your nervous system is still processing the pain signals created by the surgery. This surge in electrical signals can make nerves hypersensitive, which can prolong post-operative pain. Similarly memory loss, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and chills are common with general anesthesia.(3)

Dr. Friedlander does not use general anesthesia. He performs all surgeries while the patient is under IV sedation, limiting risks and allowing for a safer, more effective recovery.

High Definition Liposculpture

As well as VASER Lipo, Dr. Hoyos is also the inventor of VASER Hi Definition Liposculpture. Sometimes known as “abdominal etching,” this technique is a highly customizable option for patients looking to enhance their natural musculature. It removes deeper fat deposits, as well as superficial fat closer to the surface of the skin. Dr. Friendlander “sculpts” tissue in great detail by gently extracting and aspirating fat while minimizing the trauma normally associated with traditional lipoplasty.(1)

Benefits of VASER Hi Definition

  • Sculpts the body to accentuate muscle definition
  • Slims and smooths body silhouette
  • Simultaneously tightens skin
  • Addresses all layers of fat
  • Less damage to other tissue
  • Long-lasting results

VASER Hi Def is ideal for people with healthy, active lifestyles, near or at their ideal weight who regularly exercise.

FAQ

Does VASER use ultrasound?

Yes! Pioneered by plastic surgeon Dr. Albfredo Hoyos, VASER liposuction combines traditional liposuction techniques with ultrasound technology to dislodge and remove fat safely, minimizing damage to other vital tissues in the area of treatment.

How long do the results last from VASER liposuction?

Every patient responds to treatment differently, however, many surgeons will tell you that VASER results can last for years with an active, healthy lifestyle. Once fat cells are removed, they’re gone forever, so provided you eat well and exercise regularly, your VASER results will endure for many years.

Do you have to be fit to get VASER Hi Def Liposculpture?

Men and women who exercise regularly and lead healthy lifestyles may be great candidates for VASER Hi Def. Although it is an effective treatment that accentuates body contour, VASER liposuction is not a weight-loss surgery. Patients who are within 30 lb of their ideal weight, and who have realistic expectations of what VASER can achieve are generally considered good candidates.
