VASER for ankles is a cutting-edge liposuction technique that can slim, contour, and improve the appearance of the ankle and calf area of the legs. It is widely accepted that toned and shapely legs are considered attractive and desirable, particularly in women. For many women, having smooth and contoured legs is a key aspect of their overall body image and self-confidence. On the other hand, having cankles (thick ankles with no defined calf muscle) can be seen as unattractive and can cause discomfort and insecurity for some women. More About VASER

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It’s a proprietary ultrasound technology developed for use in cosmetic surgery procedures, specifically in liposuction. The VASER system uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to break down and emulsify fat cells, making them easier to remove through suction. [1] The procedure is minimally invasive and is said to result in less pain, swelling, and downtime compared to traditional liposuction methods.

What is Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction?

VASER lipo is a specific type of Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL). Ultrasound technology breaks down and removes unwanted fat from body areas like the ankles from which it is traditionally difficult to remove fat. VASER employs the use of pulsed low-power ultrasound technology, along with the utilization of high-efficiency, small-diameter solid titanium probes to achieve elevated and safer results than previous generation UAL machines. [2]

The ultrasound energy emitted by the device causes the fat cells to shake free of connective tissue and form an emulsion, making it easier to suction out of the body. This technology leads to greater fat removal and contouring results, which is what every patient with unwanted ankle fat dreams of.

How Does VASER Liquify Fat?

Ultrasound energy is transmitted through tumescent fluid, which leads to fat cells being shaken free of their tissue connections and to form an emulsion. When high-frequency ultrasound waves are applied to the area of unwanted fat, the energy causes the fat cells to vibrate rapidly, breaking apart their cell to cell connections and turning the fat into a liquid state. This liquid fat can then easily be suctioned out of the body, rather than through traditional manual methods which can be traumatic for the patient and taxing on the surgeon.

Plus, the ultrasound energy used in UAL procedures is carefully controlled to minimize damage to surrounding tissues and to ensure that the fat is evenly and effectively broken down. [1]

  • Arrange transportation – VASER lipo is performed under local or general anesthesia, so you will need to arrange transportation from the procedure.
  • Prepare your home and schedule – You may need to take time off work and you may need help around your home, depending on the extent of your recovery.

The Day of Your Procedure

On the day of your VASER liposuction, Dr. Friedlander will conduct a pre-operative consultation and mark the treatment areas. Patients will be given local anesthesia with mild sedation unless other areas of the body are being treated simultaneously.

Before the procedure, a tumescent saline solution is injected into the treatment area to numb the area, reduce bleeding, and break down fat cells. Then, a small probe is inserted through the tiny incision. The probe emits ultrasound waves to liquefy the fat cells. The liquefied fat is then carefully suctioned out through the cannula.

The length of the VASER liposuction procedure can vary based on the extent of treatment, with some taking as little as an hour. After the procedure, you will be taken to a recovery area to allow the effects of the anesthesia to subside.

Recovery After VASER

VASER liposuction is an outpatient procedure, allowing you to go home the same day. Recovery time will depend on the areas treated and the amount of fat removed, your NorCal Liposculpture team can provide an estimated timeline.

Discomfort is usually minimal and does not require strong pain medication. Some swelling may persist around the treated area for several months in the lower legs, along with possible bruising or numbness. To ensure a full recovery, it is recommended to avoid heavy lifting for about 4 weeks after the procedure.

Wearing a compression garment post-surgery is necessary to help reshape the legs. Dr. Friedlander will provide more information and guidance on wearing the garment and when you can resume rigorous exercise.

What are the Results of VASER for Ankles?

While it may be hard to wait the six to nine months for your results to fully reveal, your final outcomes will be worth the wait. Patients can see significant improvement in the contour and shape of their ankles, calves and as a result, their legs, after VASER liposuction. It is important to remember that the final result of VASER liposuction depends on factors such as age, skin elasticity, and the amount of fat removed.

VASER liposuction is more precise than traditional liposuction, which means that Dr. Friedlander can achieve better results with more accuracy and more subtle shaping. This results in a smoother, more natural-looking outcome that flatters the patient’s natural anatomy, giving them the confidence to show off their new, sleeker legs. With VASER, patients can enjoy long-lasting results that help them to feel confident as they dare to bare legs!
