Is your otherwise healthy body concealed by a layer of fat? Does this fat not respond to diet and exercise, despite your best efforts?
Unwanted fat can develop as a result of lifestyle, genetics, or hormones. This fat, unfortunately, can cling stubbornly to almost any part of the body, preventing both men and women from achieving their ideal toned physique. Thankfully, when performed by an experienced surgeon like Dr. Jack Friedlander, an individually-tailored liposuction treatment can slim and contour any number of areas to achieve ideal, long-lasting body definition.
When considering liposuction, it is important to choose a surgeon who not only knows how to safely eliminate your fat, but who also understands what results will look most natural and attractive on your unique frame. At NorCal Liposculpture, Dr. Friedlander customizes each liposuction procedure in order to achieve the best results for his patients and their unique body contouring needs.

Our bodies carry two types of fat: white and brown. Brown fat functions as a source of energy and a temperature stabilizer. It surrounds our organs as protection. Brown fat, brown because it is full of iron and blood vessels, serves a healthy, necessary role in our body.
White fat, on the other hand, can develop in our body due to aging, inactivity, or metabolism issues. While white fat can sometimes be transitioned into brown fat with exercise, an excess of white fat can put us at a higher risk of heart attack, diabetes, or cancer. White fat can sometimes be difficult to lose, adding an undesirable appearance to otherwise healthy parts of our bodies.
Not all fat is unhealthy for our bodies; however, too much fat can negatively impact our health and quality of life.
Liposuction is a minimally-invasive procedure which requires only small incisions and a slim cannula to perform. At NorCal Liposculpture, we are happy to offer our patients tumescent VASER liposuction, and VASER Hi-Def liposuction.
In order to safely eliminate fat and achieve the ideal body contour for our patients, all liposuction is performed with the assistance of tumescent fluid. Tumescent fluid is a saline solution comprised of lidocaine and epinephrine. The lidocaine, a local anesthetic, will help maintain patient comfort during their liposuction procedure. The epinephrine additionally shrinks the blood vessels, reducing bruising, swelling, and recovery time for patients. The use of the tumescent fluid causes the fat to swell and break up more easily, making its removal as gentle as possible for the patient. Dr. Friedlander has accomplished impressive body sculpting for both his male and female patients with tumescent liposuction.
The results we achieve for our patients with VASER Liposuction are on the cutting-edge of body contouring treatments.
Dr. Friedlander, a VASER Liposuction specialist, trained with the doctor who pioneered VASER and VASER Hi-Def Liposuction himself. This revolutionary fat reduction technique uses ultrasound energy, or Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance (VASER) to target and selectively remove patient’s fat cells, while leaving the surrounding tissues intact.
This method allows Dr. Friedlander to remove more fat than any other form of liposuction. This is because VASER effectively removes fat closest to the skin surface, achieving the slimmest results possible, as well as reducing topical fat-related issues like skin dimpling. VASER Liposuction can also achieve skin tightening. Dr. Friedlander uses VASER liposuction to not only eliminate fat, he also artfully sculpts the patient’s body in the process into a more slim, toned contour to achieve flattering but natural-looking results for his patients.
Patients who are physically fit and have good skin elasticity, but are struggling to lose stubborn fat that is concealing their toned body are ideal candidates for VASER Hi-Def Liposuction.
VASER Hi-Def Liposuction enables Dr. Friedlander to uniquely sculpt patient’s bodies, revealing the underlying musculature, in addition to eliminating a high percentage of patient’s unwanted fat. Patients who are interested in swapping their fat for a toned chest, sleeker arms, or six-pack abs are invited to call NorCal Liposculpture to find out more about VASER Hi-Def Liposuction today.
Liposuction: The Areas We Can Sculpt
Chin & Neck
One of the most common areas where patients struggle to lose weight is the neck and chin. An excess of tissue can create what is sometimes referred to as a “double chin” or “turkey neck,” concealing the patient’s jawline. Dr. Friedlander performs VASER Liposuction to safely eliminate the fat from patients’ lower jowls, neck, and chin. After the treated area heals, patients enjoy a slim, younger-looking neck and a contoured, attractive jawline.
Swelling and bruising will occur after your VASER liposuction for your chin and neck, but these conditions will subside within two weeks. Patients will wear a compression garment for three days following their procedure in order to diminish this swelling and improve the slim line of the jaw. Final results are usually apparent within 6 to 8 weeks, though patients will immediately notice their neck and chin are slimmer and more flattering. The procedure requires only one to three small incisions, which will heal with minimal if any visible scarring.
Liposuction of the chin and neck can usually be performed with the assistance of local anesthetic and sedation, but patients are invited to discuss their preferences with Dr. Friedlander during their private consultation.
Breast Reduction: For some women, the size of their breasts can negatively impact the rest of their body, leading to migraines and back, shoulder, and neck pain. These women are candidates for a breast reduction with liposuction. Traditional liposuction used to cause scarring in the breast, but thanks to advances in technology, combined with Dr. Friedlander’s body sculpting expertise, he is able to perform breast reductions with VASER liposuction with minimal scarring for the patient.
Patients will need to take two to four weeks off from strenuous physical activity following their breast reduction. Thanks to VASER’s gentle use of ultrasound energy to break up tissue, patient recovery is more comfortable.
Most of our breast reductions are performed under sedation, but you can discuss the use of general anesthesia if preferred.
Male Chest: One of the most common and problematic places that men develop stubborn pockets of fat is their chests. Weight gain in the chest can be a result of lifestyle habits, or it can be a result of gynecomastia, a condition triggered by drugs, hormones, and certain diseases. Thanks to VASER liposuction, Dr. Friedlander can gently and effectively eliminate fat from men’s chests, including fat that develops in the armpit or lateral rib cage. Patients who are otherwise fit but still have non-responsive deposits of fat on their chest may be good candidates for VASER Hi-Def liposuction. Dr. Friedlander will not only eliminate these fat deposits, he will also contour the chest into a more toned, athletic appearance.
You will be asked to wear a compression garment following your procedure. You will only need to take a few days off work, though you will want to avoid strenuous activity for at least three weeks. Liposuction of the chest is usually performed under local anesthesia and twilight sedation, but our patients also have the option of general anesthesia.
Liposuction is an excellent way to reduce fat and contour the appearance of patients’ arms. Patients who are otherwise athletic but have stores of fat on their arms that have not responded to exercise can have their fat eliminated from their arms with VASER liposuction. Dr. Friedlander can perform VASER Hi Def Liposuction for patients who qualify, which will allow him to shape the physique of the patient’s arm into a tight, athletic appearance.
This procedure is usually performed with local anesthetic and sedation. Depending on the type of work the patient does, some patients are able to return to work within two to three days after their liposuction for their arms. Full recovery is usually made within four to six weeks.
Abdomen and Flanks
One of our most popular procedures is VASER liposuction of the abdomen combined with liposuction of the flanks. The ultrasound energy both breaks down the fat and improves the contour of the treated area. This procedure effectively eliminates the stubborn fat that commonly causes “love handles” or “muffin top.” Patients enjoy a slimmer, toned-looking abdomen and a sleeker, tapered figure.
Patients’ liposuction will be tailored to their needs: some patients may only require liposuction of their lower abdomen, for example, to see their best results.
Patients who are in good shape but have a deposit of fat concealing their abdominal muscles may be good candidates for VASER Hi-Def liposuction. VASER technology gives Dr. Friedlander a level of control that enables him to achieve detailed contouring of not only patients’ fat but also their musculature. With VASER Hi-Def, Dr. Friedlander not only gives his patients a flat, slim stomach, he also delivers the six-pack abs that their fat has been preventing the patient from achieving.
Liposuction of the abdomen and flanks can be performed with sedation or general anesthetic, depending on the extent of work the patient will receive.
Patients will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks following their procedure. Some patients may receive drains in their treatment site for the first few days. Patients are allowed to return to work within the first few days of their recovery. Regular activities can normally be resumed within weeks.
Slimming results will be visible immediately, though patient’s final contour will not be apparent for four to six months after their liposuction.
Patients may feel self-conscious about the fat on their back that creates bumps and ridges, both in and out of clothing. If you wish you had a smooth, toned back, Dr. Friedlander can tailor a liposuction treatment to your body’s needs. VASER liposuction is an excellent way of eliminating the fat that forms in the upper back, also known as the “bra roll.”
Patients who have persistent fat in their upper shoulders, contributing to what is known as a “buffalo hump,” can also regain confidence in their posture with a expertly performed liposuction procedure.
Thanks to VASER liposuction’s gentle method of eliminating fat, Dr. Friedlander can also sculpt and eliminate any “muffin top” that may extend around patient’s lower abdomen and into their lower back.
While patient recovery will depend on the extent of work they received, most patients are able to return to work within a few days of their liposuction for their back, and to their regular schedules within two weeks. A compression garment will be worn to help with healing. Final results will take four to six months following your procedure.
Does it seem like no matter how many trips you make to the gym, you can’t achieve the round, lifted buttocks you want? Liposuction will not only eliminate the fat that is distracting from the attractive contour of your buttocks, it can also target the fat closest to the skin that is responsible for the bumpy, unattractive appearance of the surface of the buttocks. Dr. Friedlander has the careful, artful hand necessary to achieve not only patient’s desired buttocks shape and size, but also a smoother, rounder texture of the buttocks overall.
Patients are advised to wear a compression garment for the first few weeks of their recovery. Depending on the type of job, patients will need to take several days off work. It is important to stay off your buttocks as much as possible during the first weeks of recovery. For example, you will want to rest and sleep on your stomach. Patients can see and enjoy their final results within one month, or after post-procedure swelling subsides.
Do you have disproportionate stores of fat on your legs that refuse to respond to diet and exercise? VASER Liposuction can be safely performed on patient’s inner or outer thighs, as well as around the knees, to address issues like “saddle bags” or “banana roll.” With the help of hidden incisions, Dr. Friedlander can gently eliminate patient’s fat with VASER liposuction before contouring the area into the patient’s desired, smoother shape.
Dr. Friedlander frequently performs VASER liposuction to relieve his patients who are experiencing lipedema, a condition characterized by uncontrollable weight gain and water retention in patient’s legs, as well as increased pain and sensitivity to the touch. The condition affects both men and women, and the causes are unclear, although it has been linked to hormonal changes.
While there is unfortunately currently no cure for lipedema, VASER liposuction has proven highly effective at safely eliminating fat from patient’s legs, leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. A VASER liposuction procedure to address lipedema will not only eliminate a good degree of the fat and fluids that are constraining patient’s mobility, it will also improve the overall shape and contour of patient’s legs. VASER liposuction, combined with regular Combined Decongestive Therapy, greatly improves the comfort and function of patients who ares struggling to find relief from their lipedema.
Liposuction of the thighs and knees can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation. Depending on the degree of work that will be performed to address a patient’s lipedema, some patients will want to receive their leg liposuction under general anesthesia.
Liposuction is an ideal treatment for patients who have stubborn, difficult-to-lose fat that is impeding their ability to achieve a healthy, more toned physique.
Good candidates for liposuction have healthy skin laxity and muscle tone, but have fat in a certain area or areas of their body that contribute to bulging, dimpling, or an out-of-proportion appearance.
We recommend that patients complete their weight loss regimen before undergoing a liposuction procedure. In order to see the best improvement to their body’s contour, candidates should be within thirty pounds of their goal weight, be non-smokers, and follow a healthy lifestyle.
Ideal candidates will be open-minded and have realistic expectations for the outcomes achievable with a body contouring procedure.
If you have loose, sagging skin, in addition to excess tissue, you may not see your desired body contouring results through liposuction alone. You will likely see your best results with a tummy tuck or body lift.
Individuals who have a pre-existing medical condition that could interfere with their body’s ability to heal may not be good candidates for liposuction.
Liposuction is not intended to be used as a weight loss solution. However, it is an excellent way to eliminate fat which has not responded to diet or exercise in targeted areas of the body.
In order to determine your candidacy for liposuction, Dr. Friedlander will examine your body, as well as discuss your medical history, medication use, and overall lifestyle habits with you. You are encouraged to ask any questions that you may have at this time! After he has a good understanding of your goals for your appearance, he will work with you to create a liposuction treatment plan that will achieve your desired body contouring results.
Recovery & Results
A patient’s recovery period will depend on the location and extent of their liposuction. In general, patients will only require a few days of downtime, and are able to return to their usual schedules within two weeks. Most patients will need to avoid strenuous activity for four to six weeks.
Patients will notice that their treated area is much slimmer within the first few days of their recovery.
Bruising and swelling will occur in the treated area, but 80% of these conditions will be resolved within the first few weeks of recovery. The swelling will continue to diminish over the following weeks. Due to the fact that the body will take time to accept the new position of its skin and tissue, a patient’s final body contour may not appear until a few months after their procedure.
Dr. Friedlander wants every patient to feel confident and comfortable with their recovery and results. You will receive personalized instructions for your recovery well before your surgery. You will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Friedlander to assess the progress of your recovery and to remove your surgical drains, if you received any.
If you have any questions at any point of your recovery, please do not hesitate to call our office.
TThe cost of your liposuction will depend on the details of your treatment plan, including the area or areas where liposuction will be performed and the type of anesthesia you will receive. During your consultation with Dr. Friedlander, he will work with you to tailor a treatment plan that achieves your body contouring goals. You will then receive a cost breakdown that reflects your individualized plan.
