How Does Qwo Eliminate Cellulite?

Qwo is an FDA-approved cellulite injection treatment for adult women. There are no buts about it; cellulite sucks. Cellulite affects more than 90% of women to some degree. [1] Qwo offers a solution for these bothersome dimples that diet and exercise cannot combat. [2] This popular treatment option provides highly noticeable results without the need for invasive measures.

About

Qwo is an injectable treatment that is administered into the individual cellulite dimples. Qwo works by breaking down the connection of fibrous tissue with an injection of collagen disturbing enzymes. [1] This disturbance allows for the release of the tethering bands of tissue. In turn, fat cells can reposition so the skin above can smooth out, no longer creating dimples. Additionally, these enzymes help to rebuild collagen, an important substance for skin elasticity. Qwo allows you to be confident in your smooth skin

What Causes Cellulite?

While fat plays a role in the visibility of cellulite, the main cause is connective fibrous tissue bands called fibrous septae. These connective fibers bind the skin to muscles; fat exists in between. The fibers do not stretch, so when fat cells grow, the skin above stays in place creating the dimpling effect we know as cellulite. [1]

There does not need to be a lot of fat for this effect to take place, adding to why so many women are burdened by this annoying imperfection. A large amount of fat will contribute to the appearance of cellulite though since it stretches the surrounding skin further than the tethered skin can reach. Additionally, genetics can play a role.

Qwo provides the solution to a problem you cannot fix on your own.

Qwo Versus Other Cellulite Treatments

Qwo is not the first cellulite reduction treatment on the market, but it is the least invasive compared to older treatments like Cellfina and Cellulaze. These two latter-mentioned devices are inserted into the skin and utilize subcision to actually cut the connective fibers. The end result of all these treatments is the same, the fibers are released so cellulite dimples go away. However, Qwo is a simple injection; no incisions are necessary. [3]

Candidates

Candidates for Qwo treatment are adult women who suffer from dimpling of the skin on the buttocks or thighs. Women tend to experience cellulite more than men due to the positioning of the connective fibers. Men’s connective fibers lay in a criss-cross pattern while women’s are perpendicular to the skin, hence why dimples are created. [4]

You are not a good candidate for Qwo if you are currently breastfeeding, pregnant, or have an active skin infection on the treatment site. Patients should not have any bleeding disorders or allergies to collagenase products.

Qwo is not designed to tighten loose skin; it smooths dimples to the current skin elasticity. If you have loose skin and also wish to remove fat, Vaser Lipo may be an ideal procedure for you. You can read more on our blog

Your consultation at Norcal Liposculpture will consist of an examination of the cellulite on the buttocks or thighs and a discussion about your medical history and current medications taken. A personalized course of treatment will be drawn up based on these. If you are interested in any other body sculpting treatments, Dr. Friedlander is happy to talk about them at this time as well.

Our goal at Norcal Liposculpture is to educate our patients on the treatments and procedures they are receiving so they come in the day of their appointment confident. Preparation

A week before your Qwo appointment, do not consume alcohol, nicotine, or blood thinning medications. You will provide the doctor with your current supplements and medications incase any of these need to be temporarily paused as well. It is recommended to take Arnica before treatment, if you are not allergic, to help reduce bruising. On the day of your procedure, do not shave or apply lotions or creams to the areas being treated. It is best to wear loose fitting pants or a dress for comfort. If additional preparation instructions are necessary for your personalized treatment, these will be provided to you before your appointment date.

Procedure

Since Qwo only consists of injections, numbing is not necessary. Patients will lie on their stomachs for treatment to make sure the muscles are not engaged. The best dimples to target are the ones that are well-defined; these will be marked before treatment. The needle is then injected into the fat layer where the fibrous tissue resides. The needle is not constantly removed, it is simply repositioned to release the fibrous tissue responsible for pulling on the skin. Qwo treatment takes roughly half an hour and is personally performed by Dr. Friedlander.

Buttocks treatment will consist of 24 injections per appointment. Treatment consists of three appointments spread three weeks apart. Please inquire about treatment on the thighs during your consultation.

Recovery

Qwo does not require any downtime, but you may feel sore for a couple of days. This should not stop you from continuing your normal routine. Bruising is to be expected with collagenase clostridium histolyticum enzymes but it does dissipate on its own. Because of this, make sure you do not schedule your sessions during a time that you plan on wearing swimsuits or revealing clothing. Bruising becomes less profound with each treatment round.

Results

If following the recommended course of treatment, you can see results about a month after your third and final treatment. The results of Qwo are long-lasting because it addresses cellulite at the source rather than very temporary topical treatments. The fibrous tissues do not regrow so once they are disconnected from the skin, the connection is not restored. Therefore, your skin will remain beautifully smooth.*
